The Day After

Author: Erusi

The day after the Echoes return to Azeroth
Borean Tundra

A bitter wind cut through the air against the wings of the blue dragon, she pushed herself up over it, teetering on the edge of the clouds. With the extra altitude, the Nexus broke the horizon in all its royal blue glory. With the rise of the Nexus came the beat of fellow dragons, as two escorts broke the clouds above her and matched their pace with hers. With a tilt of their heads they observed her rune wrapped horns and jewel adorned headpiece and gave what looked like a snarl, but toned match that of a smile.

“Erusigosa, it has been some time” Marengosa proclaimed, her head turning forwards.

Abenigos tucked his wings in and dropped down beneath Erusi, looking up. “What happened to your little adventures in Draenor? Get cut short?”

Erusigosa twisted her wings up and her tail down, attempting to swat at Aben. “Someone died,” She snarled. “I could not save them.”

The mood changed from playful to somber in a moment, and the three levelled off on approach for the Nexus. “I have come back to seek counsel, the mission to Draenor I feel has failed.” She added, the two looked at each other then at her. “Your timing is...well. We’re glad you’re here.”

Eru wrapped her wings around herself and dived towards the Nexus, increasing in speed.

As she came in to land, a meeting was already underway, it was customary for them to remain in dragon form during this but with the sheer amount of dragons here, the plinths were few and far between. She pulled herself out of form a few feet above, dropping into a light run before sliding her hooves over the edge to watch the rest. Aben and Maren joined her and sat on the edge.

“With the age of the dragons coming to an end and the powers that came with the aspects no longer within our grasp, it is up to us to seek out new sources of power.” Darendrak bellowed. “Whether within Northrend, on Azeroth or other realms, I implore you to search far and wide.”

Erusi leant into Aben and whispered, “What is happening?”

“We are dying, with the aspects went our immortality and our fertility.” Aben choked to bring the words forwards, but couldn’t deny them any longer. “Daren has been going on about this for quite some time, Kalec is okay with it, but Daren is not.”

Erusi looked around the gathered numbers, it was impossible to conceive for even but a moment that Kalecgos was unaware of this meeting, this possible dissent in the ranks.

“For too long we have watched over this world and been it’s protectors, and now we are denied.” Darendrak spoke. “I call to those who would stand with me to continue our protection and regain what is ours.”

Maren frowned, “The last time I heard a speech like this, someone planted a seed that grew a very large but unblessed tree.”

Erusi nodded sadly, “With the aspect powers gone, neither Nordrassil nor Teldrassil will ever receive blessing.” She paused, “But perhaps…”

Daren turned to their plinth in all his fury and spread his wings out “Have you something to say, you three or are you continuing a different conversation?”

All eyes turned to their plinth; Aben, Maren and Erusi fell silent. “No, just talking about the same thing.”

“Perhaps you could share, what you find so insightful that you feel it more important to talk amongst yourselves than listen to me?” Daren flapped his wings, the three in their humanoid forms felt the wind hit them.

Erusi took a breath in, only to be cut short by Daren, “Whatever it is, it is wasting time. Go, seek out sources and return to me.” She responded with a huff and turned to her high elf and gnomish companions, “We need to find Kalec, I do not like this.”
