Two Days Later

Author: Erusi

Erusi had been circling Kalimdor for days, venturing below the cloud cover often she even
swore sight of the wandering isle at some point. There was no taste of blue dragonflight
magic in the air and her eyes brought her no further information, if Kalec was near he was
not using the magic she had known her flight to use so easily.

She drew a claw up and stretched her talons out, pulling a swirling mist of energy from
nothingness. Flicking it forwards it formed a portal that kept pace with her, bringing into focus
the sight of a dragon high over the Eastern Kingdoms. “Aben, any leads?” She spoke,
turning her head to the portal but keeping a steady pace.

Aben had set down atop one of the peaks in the Hinterlands, “No Eru, I have scoured the
plaguelands and the forsaken’s lands and found no sign of him.”

With a twist of her claw the portal split in two and a connection to Maren was formed.
“Maren, yourself? Any sign?”

Maren seemed almost emotionless, and simply shook her head. “There is nothing in
Northrend. This is a waste of time.”

“Where else should we look? Wyrmrest held no record of his departure, let alone his
journey.” Erusi turned her head away from the portal to look down upon the now flooded
thousand needles region.

“We could use the beacon?” Aben was at this point nigh on hugging the mountain as the
wind battered his wings. “Summon all of our flight, at which point he must return.”
“I wanted to be subtle, to speak to him in a private setting where such formalities would not
be required. Daren will have first say if we do such a thing.” Erusi pondered.

It was the first time that Maren had shown a smile on this journey, let alone any other emotion. “He could be distracted. His gaze drawn from the skies, whilst the beacon is
ignited.”

“I’ll distract him.” Erusi responded, “You two light the beacon and speak to Kalec, this needs
to end.”

The three drew magic and took to the sky, in a simultaneous motion from three different
points of Azeroth they turned and dived down. A sharp intake of breath in one moment saw
them breathe arcane fire in the next, the fire swirled and twisted, forming a portal at it’s
climax and in one flick of their wings they dove through their fire and out into the air of
Coldarra.

Erusi turned to Maren and Aben and simply nodded, diving for the central tower. As she
reached the ground she rolled, transforming into her Draenei form and landing on her
hooves, slowing her pace from a steady jog to a slow walk. Hands drew up her hood and a
click of her fingers turned her magic from a steady blue to a glowing white and yellow. This
felt natural, more than that of the arcane. “Darendrak, I have come to speak with you.” She
echoed up into the chamber, the hollow walls carrying her voice.

The chamber was darker than usual, seldom a beam of light breaking it’s thick windows. It
took a moment, but Erusi noticed the torches of fire were cold, their embers unmoving.
“Darendrak, this is not the time for theatrics.” She shouted, ironically. Flicking up her sleeves
she threw a ball of light around the room, igniting the torches with a white fire unlike that of
the blue flame they had seen before. Catching it in her other hand, she squeezed the last of
the power from it and let her sleeves fall back down.

“No Erusigosa, it is not.” He stepped down off the central pillar and landed at a slower pace,
his wings breaking his fall with a final flap. The wind from the wings cut through the chamber
and wafted at Erusi’s robe. “What brings you here?”

“This, mission you are on, it is foolish. The last time we brazenly sought magic this openly
saw the elves learn of our ways and birth the crystalsong forest in their chaos.” She
snapped. “And yet you would continue this and have us sprint to our demise even though
our age has passed?”

“You know nothing of what I am doing, Erusi.” He stepped closer, not breaking from his
dragon form, slamming a claw down in saying her name. “How dare you assume we are the
same as we once were. Times have changed.”

“We are not the bronze, time never changes by our hands Daren. Even you are old enough
to know that.” Erusi walked to her right, Daren turning to face her and putting his back to the
window that faced the beacon. The lighting of the room had not been without reason, the
lighter the room, the less possibility attention and gaze would be drawn to outside.
“I am not intending to change our past, but secure our future.” He clenched at the ground,
talons scratching at stone. “Kalec left me in charge and I would see us saved. Even when
the other flights are all but damned.” With the scratch came a clap and with his breath came
a brief glimmer of light in the distance. It went unnoticed but nevertheless the beacon was lit
and a pillar of arcane fire tickled the very sky above Northrend. Wherever the blue
dragonflight were, one simple look to the sky would see them signalled home.

“Darendrak,” She dropped to a knee. “I request of you that I be granted the leadership that
Kalec gave you.” A hand tucked beneath her robe. “You know I am the wiser of us both.”
He scoffed, “Are you asking me to simply hand it over, or abdicate?” Daren had stepped
forward at this point and was near enough gazing down at Erusi, his head alone towering
above her.

“Which would you prefer?” She kept her gaze on the floor. “The former is the nicer, the latter
I understand could be difficult for you.” She turned her head to one side for a moment. “After
all, you’ve never given up anything in your life.” Her head turned up, smiling. “Except your
mate, of course.”

With the final comment, a fire built in his eyes and he swatted at her with a claw in rage, with
an outstretched hand she met his swipe and used it to slide across the floor, balanced in the
movement. “You would take all that I have?!” He bellowed, a firey arcane rage pouring from
his mouth. “After you have taken so much?”

“No Daren, I only request to take from you that which you are unfit to have.” She tucked her
hands back into her robe and stood up. “As I do now, like I did before.” She grinned. “Are we
going to engage in this idle prattery or are you going to do what you have wanted to for an
age?”

Darendrak glared, “It has been some time since you knew what I wanted to do, Eru.”
She shook her head. “You wanted to be the aspect of the blue, never has there been more
obvious a task in your mind. I stood in your way, with the others and with Malygos’ fall Kalec
was the natural choice.” She paused, pacing again to put the window behind them. “You are
as unfit then as you are now. Graced only with Malygos’ madness.”

Daren roared and swatted at her again, drawing a hand from her robe she held it out. This
time, it did not meet his claw but instead stopped it in mid air, a ball of light in her hand and a
larger yellow magic glow holding his claw in mid air. “You have chosen to give up the
arcane, to go for something weaker.” He spat. “You always were good at picking second
best. Speaking of which, how’s the mortal wife?”

“She’s lovely thank you, much less of an absolute bitch than you were.” Erusi smiled,
clenching her outstretched hand to the almighty roar of Daren as his claw was buckled and
broken under the yellow light. He recoiled the broken claw, clasping it in his other. The smile
broke and she stepped forwards, “I can heal that for you if you like, this magic is not all
weak.”

He didn’t taken a moment to consider her request before opening his mouth and bathing her
in arcane fire. From within the fire came an almighty scream, the scream lasted for but a
moment before it broke to a laugh, breaking Daren’s resolve and his firebreath.
Within the fire rested a bubble of yellow light and within that Erusi with outstretched arms, shielding
herself from the blaze. She dropped her hands, the bubble ceasing and she tucked the
hands back into the robe. “My powers are different, but they are not weaker. You have your
magic, I have mine.”

Daren paused, “I think, perhaps you are right.” He began transforming, dropping into his
human form. “I would not have us see out our end alone.” He dropped to one knee in the
pain he had. Drawing a hand behind him and dropping a small cube into it.

“Our end is coming Daren, whether we like it or not, we have joined the mortals now and if
what I heard is true, we have joined them sterile as the last of our kind.” Erusi added. “I ask
for the leadership so that I can lead this flight to acceptance, to acclimatise as part of the
mortal realm wherever we can call home.”

“This is our home, this will always be our home.” Daren remarked. “Coldarra is the home of
the blue as it always has been and always will be.” He drew the hand in front of him and
offered it to Erusi to help him up.

“Our home changes Daren, whether we want it to or not.” She clapped his hand with hers
and pulled on it to draw him up. The hand slipped and she looked at it in surprise, the small
cube in her hand opened up and began enveloping her in an arcane prison. Before she had
a chance to hit it with any form of magic it had encased her fully and levitated her off the
ground in its cube-like form.

“You are right, Eru. Our homes do change, it seems you have found yours for now, whilst I
help our flight find theirs once more.” He turned and looked at the window, growling. “Stupid,
insolence.” He gazed upon the beacon, blasting the window out. “Let us see who is behind
this treachery.” He leapt out the window and transformed back into his dragon form, darting
for the beacon and the gathering blue dragonflight.
